It didn't take Dean long to get used to the car. He kept it spotless and delighted in taking me to work a couple of times. We worked together, for the same company, only a couple of miles away.
In the early hours of Sunday March 4th, he arrived home in an AA pickup, with the Escort in tow. He'd been travelling home from a meeting and one of the con-rods had decided it was time to bend.

Monday was spent scouring the Internet, on a 56k modem to get a replacement bottom end for a reasonable price. Tuesday lunchtime, Dean sent me an e-mail saying that he'd found a couple of options, ranging from a standard 1.6 CVH up to a 2.1 Zetec.
Less than a month and it was broke.
There was only one thing for it.
We'd have to fix it.
I said I would help. Well, that's what dads are for.
